SAN DIEGO – “On behalf of the San Diego Hospice Corporate Board of Directors and the San Diego Hospice Foundation, we are saddened to hear about the passing of America’s legendary original ‘Dear Abby’ advice columnist Pauline Phillips, better known to most people as Abigail Van Buren,” said Kathleen Pacurar, President and CEO of San Diego Hospice.

“A former National Advisory Board Member of the San Diego Hospice Foundation, she was chosen as the 1990 San Diego Hospice Humanitarian Award recipient. Mrs. Phillips used her advice column to comfort, support, educate and inform readers on a long list of topics throughout the years, including the importance of hospice care. Thanks to her leadership and philanthropic support, we are forever grateful for her efforts locally and nationally on behalf of hospice care. Our hearts go out to her family and readership base across the world.”
