THE S. MARK TAPER FOUNDATION DONATES $25,000 TO SAN DIEGO HOSPICE AND THE INSTITUTE FOR PALLIATIVE MEDICINE

 

SAN DIEGO, CA - The S. Mark Taper Foundation has donated $25,000 to San Diego Hospice and The Institute for Palliative Medicine to support adults and children clients through its HIV/AIDS Case Management (HACM) Program.

Through the HACM Program, Registered Nurse Case Managers and Masters level Social Worker Case Managers address the physical and emotional needs of adults and children affected by HIV or AIDS, enabling them to maintain their health, stay in their homes, and live the highest quality of life possible.

(SAN DIEGO) – On Valentine’s Day, February 14, 2012, San Diego Hospice and The Institute of Palliative Medicine celebrates 35 years of caring for our community. From humble beginnings as the first nonprofit hospice provider in the county, San Diego Hospice has grown to become one of the largest hospice and palliative care programs in the country, caring for 1,200 patients each day. In addition to patient and family care, our Institute for Palliative Medicine trains 3,400 clinicians (Physicians, Nurses, Social Workers, Pharmacists and Clergy) from around the world in palliative care annually.

Massage volunteers provide comfort through therapeutic touch

SAN DIEGO, CA – San Diego Hospice and The Institute for Palliative Medicine’s unique volunteer massage therapy program helps provide comfort and dignity to patients. The organization is looking for more licensed massage therapists to volunteer their valuable skills to help promote the quality of life for hospice patients on our service.

According to the National Institutes of Health, massage has been proven to reduce anxiety, blood pressure, heart rate, depression, and pain.
