San Diego Hospice Invitational Golf Tournament

Tuesday, September 14, 2010

San Diego Hospice and The Institute for Palliative Medicine invites to you to join in the excitement
of our Third Annual Invitational Golf Tournament on Tuesday, September 14, 2010 located at
The Crosby at Rancho Santa Fe.
This year our tournament will benefit The Center for Grief Care and Education at San Diego Hospice,
as well as bereavement support programs, including Camp Erin San Diego.
The Center for Grief Care and Education
The Center for Grief Care and Education is proof that San Diego Hospice’s commitment and service
to the community does not end with the death of a hospice patient. We support people in their grief
process with clinical services and educational tools, including workshops, support groups, individual
and family counseling and special children’s programs. We also educate and train professional
counselors and health care professionals in all aspects of grief and loss. And our services are open
to all in the county.
Camp Erin San Diego
Camp Erin San Diego debuted last year and provided a fun and supportive environment for 80
bereaved children experiencing the death of a loved one. The camp gives children a chance to heal
through recreational activities, age-appropriate counseling, and the opportunity to be with others who
are going through a similar experience.
Camp Erin was created by major league baseball player, Jaime Moyer and his wife, Karen. Camp Erin
celebrates the memory of Erin Metcalf, a bright and compassionate young woman, whom the Moyers
had met during her battle with liver cancer. In June of 2000, Erin died at the age of 15.
Additional Grief and Bereavement Programs
Proceeds from the tournament will also support other grief and bereavement programs managed by
The Center for Grief Care and Education. These include:
• Grief Street: A Family Bereavement Program
• Counseling and therapy for adults, children, couples and families
• Professionally led bereavement support groups
San Diego Hospice and The Institute for Palliative Medicine was established more than 33 years ago as
the first hospice in the San Diego area and continues today to be a local, national and global leader in the
field of palliative care.
