San Diego, California– A new year reveals new opportunities for community members to access support following a loss or death. Four new specialty grief groups, hosted by The Center for Grief Care and Education at San Diego Hospice, are now forming and scheduled to start in February 2012.

“By offering specialty grief groups that focus on specific types of losses, we are able to target the needs of community members and provide more personalized support,” said Noreen Carrington, LMFT, FT, Executive Director of The Center for Grief Care and Education.

The four specialty groups that are now forming include:

·      Soul Survivors- a daytime bereavement support group for men and women who have lost spouses and are retired or approaching retirement.

·      Day by Day– an adult group for men and women who have experienced the loss of their spouses in mid-life.

·      Legacies –an adult group for those impacted by the death of parents.

·      Passages- an adult group for women who have experienced the death of their mothers.

These groups are open to families of San Diego Hospice patients as well as to all community members who are grieving a death that occurred without the benefit of San Diego Hospice services. Registration is now open to fill these groups.  If you are interested, please sign-up by contacting a Center for Grief Care and Education Counselor at griefinfo@sdhospice.orgor call 619-278-6480. From there, the counselor will schedule a pre-session meeting to discuss additional details and cost.
