
San Diego Hospice Participates in Stand Down - July 2012
San Diego Hospice staff and volunteers held a clothing drive for new undergarments such as sock and tees for Stand Down 2012, an annual three-day weekend event that provides over 1,000 homeless veterans with food, showers, clothing, hot meals, medical treatment and overall support to help them improve their quality of life. San Diego Hospice staff and volunteers also volunteered their time for this wonderful event.
Memorial Day Pinning, Pie & Ice Cream Event - May 2012
In honor of Memorial Day, San Diego Hospice staff and volunteers, including members of the Veterans Outreach Committee and Vet-to-Vet Volunteers, honored veterans by visiting participating long-term care facilities in San Diego County. As part of San Diego Hospice’s Veterans Outreach program, staff and volunteers conducted a special pinning ceremony for veterans at the facilities, which included a patriotic reception with apple pie and ice cream, served to facility residents. Over 500 guests attended the festivities, with 300 veterans receiving commemorative lapel pins. Read full press release here.
Veterans Matter Launch Event - Jan 2012

Demonstrating its ongoing commitment to veterans and their special needs at end of life, San Diego Hospice and The Institute for Palliative Medicine formally launched its new VETERANS MATTER Outreach Program with a ceremony on Friday, January 27 attended by military and veterans representatives, elected and community officials, family members, and San Diego Hospice staff, board members and supporters. Highlights of the ceremony included the pinning of San Diego Hospice patient Jim Evans, a World War II veteran and Purple Heart recipient who has benefitted from San Diego Hospice care for nearly a year; and presentations to family members of veteran Manuel Huerta, who passed away while in the care of San Diego Hospice.
