Counseling Internship Program

The Counseling Internship Program at the Center for Grief Care and Education (CGCE) at San Diego Hospice and The Institute for Palliative Medicine provides you opportunities to further your clinical experience in the field of psychotherapy, thanatology, and palliative care.

Visit one of our orientation sessions to learn more about the program, including:

  • Meeting a CGCE Clinical Supervisor
  • Learning about our clinical training and the intern/trainee experience
  • Reviewing the criteria required to apply to the Counseling Internship Program
  • Touring the Mission Valley counseling suite
  • Acquiring new knowledge about a local resource for community and family wellness

Orientation Sessions are held at San Diego Hospice and The Institute for Palliative Medicine’s Main Campus in the Board Room,
located at 4311 Third Ave, San Diego, CA  92103

Directions:

From Interstate 8, take Highway 163 South. Take the Washington Street West exit and continue west on Washington Street. Turn right on Fourth Avenue. Turn left on Montecito (one-way street). Turn right on Third Avenue. Continue on Third Avenue until it ends. Enter in the first building near the large parking lot, the Board Room will be on your right.

To participate in our interview and hiring process, please review our three step process:

  1. Participate in one CGCE Counseling Internship Program Orientation.  This is a 60 minute presentation by a Clinical Supervisor.  During this Orientation, our goal is to provide you detailed information about the clinical experience and training we offer.  We will also outline the specific requirements to be met by our therapists during their contract with us.  There is no fee or RSVP required to participate in the Orientation session.  If you are unable to attend one of these meetings, please contact Maryrita Hillengas at mhillengas@sdhospice.org .  
  1. After participation in an Orientation session, please submit your resume or CV to mhillengas@sdhospice.org.  You may be contacted to schedule an interview with a Clinical Supervisor.
