Why Care About Public Policy?
Legislation, public policies, bills, laws: these terms may seem far removed from the daily lives of hospice and palliative care community members but, in reality, legislative decisions have a direct impact on the quality, availability and funding of hospice and palliative care programs.
We understand, however, the current healthcare dialogue is complex and constantly shifting and believe now, more than ever, those who work, volunteer and are passionate about hospice and palliative care need a trusted source that can provide pertinent and timely information.
That is why SDHIPM’s Public Policy Committee – a group of SDHIPM staff and board members – has been formed to coordinate SDHIPM legislative and advocacy efforts and share legislative information and action opportunities with our community.
The goals of this Public Policy Corner include:
- Inform our staff, volunteers and our community about healthcare policies that affect hospice and palliative care services
- Support legislative and advocacy efforts initiated by our local, state and federal partners
- Take action by highlighting opportunities for people to participate in local, state and federal advocacy efforts
