More than 1,400 participants signed up for the annual walk to benefit San Diego Hospice
The 3rd Annual Melisa & Kaye’s Memorial 5K Walk and Fun Run was a huge success! The event took place on March 31, 2012, at the beautiful NTC Park at Liberty Station in Point Loma. The event gave many families and friends the opportunity to participate in memory or in honor of a loved one. This year's event had a record-breaking 1,400 participants including runners, walkers, families and pets.
Melisa & Kaye's Memorial 5K Walk and Fun Run raised more than $110,000 for the many programs and services that San Diego Hospice and The Institute for Palliative Medicine provides to the community. The event featured educational booths, kids activities, musical entertainment by Gary Kelley (who also served as the pre-walk Emcee) and the Ballad Mongers. The post-walk recognition awards were presented by Emcee Carlo Cecchetto, CBS 8 News Anchor.
“The Melisa & Kaye’s Memorial 5K Walk truly brings the San Diego community together to help honor our loved ones and recognize the wonderful work that San Diego Hospice provides,” noted Event Chair and San Diego Hospice Board Member Marty Pendarvis.
“I want to thank our community of supporters for making our annual event a huge success," said Traci Bruckner, Chief Development Officer for San Diego Hospice and The Institute for Palliative Medicine. "The love and support that is in the air that day is beyond compare. And with that support, our donors ensure that San Diego Hospice will be here to help others today, tomorrow and forever.”
